Dental bridges can take on a gap in your smile, but if you have multiple gaps across your smile then you may need a partial denture. Custom-made for your smile, this can provide a lifelike and durable solution to complicated cases of tooth loss. In today’s blog, your Shrewsbury, MA, dentist talks about our options for securing your partials.
Partial Dentures
What is a partial denture? This is a prosthetic that contains new teeth that are designed to fit in between the open gaps in your smile. These are made from ceramic, which is very durable and also color-matched to blend with the rest of your smile. The new teeth will be secured in a base that looks like gum tissue and is made from acrylic. We will design and craft the new prosthetic based on detailed digital images and impressions we take of your bite, ensuring a comfortable fit and a balanced bite, as well as a lifelike appearance. This can help prevent complications like misalignment, TMJ disorder, bruxism (teeth grinding), and issues with eating or speech. You can feel confident again when you smile!
Removable
We have two different options for securing your new dental prosthetic. The most common is the removable option. With this selection, the denture will contain metal clasps that connect to natural teeth and keep the prosthetic firmly in place. These won’t be visible when you smile. With this option, the prosthetic needs to be removed for cleaning and soaking, and tends to last about 5 to 10 years, requiring replacement as the jaw ridge gradually changes shape with time.
Dental Implants
We could also secure them with dental implants. With this option, we will surgically insert the implants into the jaw, where they bond with the bone structure and act like new roots. This keeps the jawbone intact and prevents the changes that necessitate the regular replacement of the denture every few years. We then connect the prosthetic to them. This option is fixed in place and doesn’t need to be taken out for maintenance, and never slips when you eat or speak. With dental implants, your partial can last for decades to come too, or possibly a lifetime!
